Carolyn McClellan
Teacher's Aide
Carolyn is a native to San Jose, but currently lives in Scotts Valley with her husband Paul. She has two grown children who attended Grace Christian School. She studied business in college and enjoyed a 15 year career at a large insurance brokerage where she worked her way up to Assistant Vice President of Accounting. Not long after her first child came along she became a full time mom. It has been over 10 years since she started her second career working with children in both large and small settings. She has a passion for Christian education as it invites students to see and understand the world through the perspective of God’s truth.

Debbie Rice
Board Member
Debbie was born in San Jose and raised in the Los Gatos foothills. She is married to Pete, a retired schoolteacher who taught for over 30 years. Debbie, a graduate of The Paralegal Institute at Santa Clara University, works as a part-time legal assistant for a Palo Alto corporate law firm, where she has been employed for 30 years. On her days off, she enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and hostessing “tea parties” in her home. She loves building into the lives of young women by demonstrating the art of tea manners, etiquette, beauty, and showing God’s love to them over a cup of tea! Debbie also serves on the Women’s Ministry Team at Covenant Presbyterian Church.- Board

Richard Neff
Chairman of the Board - Retail Management
Richard is a 2nd generation San Jose resident with over 38 years of retail management experience. His part time passion is photography, and he enjoys supporting both the church and Grace Christian School. Richard hopes that students will embrace the Christ centered teachings of Grace Christian School to know God better as they go on to higher grades. He and his wife, Virginia, have four children and seven grand children.- Board

Rick VanderKam
Board Member, Elder Liaison - Software Architect
Rick is from Michigan, and graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids with an engineering degree. He received his PhD from Stanford in electrical engineering, and has worked for more than 20 years in telecommunications software development. Rick greatly benefitted from the Christ-centered education he received, and desires that succeeding generations of students will see not only that all belongs to God, but science and religion don’t have to be at odds. Rick and his wife Hatsumi have one son.- Board

Jan Starke
Head Teacher - Grades K-5
Jan has a degree in Early Child Education and seventeen years of professional teaching experience. She has taught at Grace Christian School for twelve years, dating back to when her own children were students here. She has a passion for educating young children and desires to see her students not only master their subjects, but to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).- Faculty
